ok guys, i'm a corvette lover of all generations and years but am very confused with the price rise of the 78-82 vettes. like i said i love them all, and i'm more then understanding that the market fluctuates (and we all know that the 78-82 model years suffered for a while) but when comparing a nice, original 82 up against a nice, original 70 model, i'm stumped!
same condition, same price!
and then, you could flip onto the comparsion of a 92 vette up against an 82. a far superior car and worth much less (as this model year is suffering at present) hell, you can almost get a ZR1 for what you pay for a great 82!
i understand the nature of the market.....everything dips and peaks. but for me logic enters the realm of purchasing.
thanks for listening to me whine guys. and there was definately no offense intend to anyone or any cars!
I think the C3 corvettes are unique for one reason, the are bought based on how "cool" the car it looks, while other genrations and generally speaking, other classic cars, are bought based on how rare, powerful, rust-free (.. etc) they are. Thats why you see a '82 that sells for more than a '90 ZR1, simply because the '82 looks more cool!!
Thats my personal point of view, which may sounds silly (and it probably is!). I bought my '71 because I like how it looks.

I've never seen a comparable '70/71/72 (L46/48) and '82 at anywhere near the same price here in the states. The '70 would be about $9-10k more.
C4s are clearly the bottom of the Corvette food chain, but still a comparable condition ZR1 would be $13-15k more than an '82 CE here.
Again we're talking comparable condition cars.
If you're buying, and could find a nice LT5 C4 for the same price as a CE, I say snap that sucker up!
Not in the Southeast. This weekend I looked at a very nice 81 vette for 10K, this car is ready to drive & needs very little. If you find a 70 for sale for that price it's probably not running.

From what I have seen in the market in our area, this is not a situation that I have seen come up. Either the late model C3 is WAY overpriced, or the ZR-1 and 70-72 cars that you have seen are really good deals or worked over POS's.
