Default It's Hot Out There!!!

95 Degrees this weekend and a number of Vette waves and hot rod waves - lots of fun in the 1975. A while back someone said that all of a sudden, after driving a short time perhaps 10 minutes, a heat wave came thru the ductwork. I usually turn on the vent and it's comfortable for about 10 minutes then the heat wave thru the ductwork, I turn on the AC and I'm fine (although still keep the windows down). The fact the vent has cool air flowing, then the heat wave does this mean the engine/exhaust manifolds have gotten real hot and it's getting into the ductwork? Some would say the vent doors aren't working but they are for cool air flow and AC. So what's the solution when it's coming thru the ductwork. Isn't the real problem that the blower (does it need insulation around it?) and cool air intake are in the hot engine compartment ( why not run ductwork from the front of the car to the air intake?). Open to suggestions. Tnx Peter

Not helping your issue, but I was out in the 69 over the weekend and I thought I'd die from the heat coming up from the driver side floor area, yet the pass side had a great amount of not so hot air coming in....

I understand there's a "Chevrolet" car show somewhere local on Saturday? You going?

Couple of questions...

Still running the factory heater control valve or do you have a manual shut off valve?

Ever had the ducting system apart or is it all orginal?

Reason I ask is if its the original heater control valve it could be leaking and allowing the hot water to run through the system and that can be enough to give you that hot air breath.

Also look at you air flap intake area and hood seals.

here is a good link for some improvement.....

The original factory heater control valve is spring loaded. As you drive the valve pushes the control valve open due to the vibration and also opens the heater box door slightly. Thus, all of sudden you get a shot of hot air. You have to constantly move the temperature level to the coolest position (approximately every 10 minutes) I installed an electrical heater control valve developed by the Corvette Clinic out of Florida. It works well and the temperature level stays on the coolest position.

Kelly - had not heard about the car show but, the Chevy dealer on the Northside of town sponsers the local club and it's probably them. I just wish they would have shows in early spring or late fall - it is no fun to have your car out in 90+ degree heat/humidity - the sun takes it toll on the interior and wax job.
Factory heater valve - I have two shut offs on the water hoses. But, as stated it could be the original valve is pushing the door open a tad - I shall have to check. Tnx for the response!!! Peter
