Alright I took one of the calipers apart off my 78 Pace car. It was terrible, pitted very bad. My queestion is, how important is it to have the original brake calipers on this vehicle if it ever goes to get sold. Should I just get all new SS and keep the old. Or does anyone know of anybody around the Cincinnati Ohio area that resleeves calipers. These are really bad even the pistons are bad.
That's what I did, kept the originals but put rebuilt/replacements on the car from AutoZone. AZ gives a life time replacement - swap over the counter equals minimal downtime should you have to replace one down the road. Very cost effective.
Another thing to note - check the calipers at the store to ensure they match the ones you're replacing. The stamping should read "Declo Moraine" (check my spelling - I'm sitting in my living room and the cars are in the garage where it's 90 degrees plus...
I've had to go through a couple of boxes with the parts guys to find ones I liked but truth be told you can't really see them through the rims like the ones on modern Corvettes.
I've had 2 original sets sleeved and rebuilt by Muskegon Brake in Michigan. Was $80 per caliper and about a month turnaround.
Just preferred to keep my low mile originals than give them up for who knows what!
