Default HELP... with jack storage

Looking for some imput regarding jack placement in storage compartment. First of all I have a "78 with the 3 storage areas in the rear. I have purchased a jack from a '78 (dated 826) and I am trying to figure out how you get a jack when folded all the way down that measures approx. 16" long in a storage compartment that is approximately 9 1/2" X11"! Also the hold down spring, I have no clue what to do with this! Any help from you vette experts out their surely would be appreciated.......ALOT!
Thanks, Ed

You are aware that the fibreboard insert is removable and that the jack stows underneath it?
There's holes in the side to put your fingers in to lift it out.

Stores like this after you remove the insert.

Thanks to all ......... 3.........of you for the reply and guiding me in the right direction! This is my first vette and I had no idea that the cardboard storage tray came out and the jack stores under it! Unbelievable, only Corvette could come up with that unique design feature!
I now have my jack stored properly and secured with the hold down spring! Thank God!
Again, many thanks for helping me out! I truly appreciate it! This web site is just the best reference use for all Corvette owners! Amen!! Ed

Good question! No............there was no jack, handle or spring! I was informed by the previous owner that the jack was missing!
Thank god, Last thing I needed was two jacks! I had spent over 3 months on E-bay looking for a dated '78 jack and finally found one in new condition complete with handle and hold down spring. Thanks again for the response.....GREAT QUESTION TO ASK! Ed

Hey, as long as you are lifting the tray out you might want to check the condition of the paperboard. If it is rough, broken, torn or just not in great shape you can now buy a plastic version that is tough, strong, nice looking and available from a variety of suppliers including Willcox, Zip, etc. Not too expensive and really makes the compartment functional again.
FYI, enjoy your 78.

Hi, thanks for the reply! As far as the fibre trays they are all in excellent condition with no sign of wear! Basically, the entire car for 30 years old is in fine condition with the only thing not being original is the aftermarket radio.....which is junk! I am in the process of purchasing an original AM-FM Stereo W/8track out of a '78. Believe it or not, the clock even works......alittle fast but still keeps on ticking! Enjoy your sweet looking vettes also...........Ed

Thanks Ed, much appreciated. I love the C-3's and drive them every chance I get. My Corvette Orange has 21,500 miles on it and is spoiled rotten, but the Red one has 80,200 miles and loves to be driven. Enjoy your beautiful car.
Best regards,
David Howard

Hello again Dave! Thanks for nice compliment on the car. Both your vettes look new and very well preserved. When you mentioned your orange vette is spoiled; I had to laugh thinking of myself with the same reaction to the Pace Car. When I bought the car it had been stored for 5 years and only had 36K on it. I'm with you on the cars should be driven and taken to shows where their appreciated for their unique features. Who is going to see them stored away in some garage or museum forever? Then again, the ones with ZIP for miles go for BIG DOLLARS, regardless of year!
You take care and enjoy those beautiful looking vettes! I see your from Pa. and I'm alittle farther north in the snow belt area of New York! So, we both know we have a very SHORT WINDOW of opportunity to enjoy our cars..............so make the most of it!
Have a great evening................Ed!

I know all about the shortened window. I am from Michigan and my bride is from Syracuse, so we have moved a bit further South to somewhat warmer weather but not near what the folks in the South get for year around driving of the Vettes.
You might consider coming to Corvettes at Carlisle one of these years, I hear it is a great gathering and I am heading there this year for my first visit August 23-25. Can't wait.
Take care.
David

Good evening Dave! So, your from Michigan originally! Michigan is a gorgeous state in the summer months but they definitely get their share of the white stuff! I spent 2 years in the upper pennisula, Marquette area, when I was stationed at K. I. Sawyer Air Base way back in the 60's!!
Plus, your wife is from central N.Y., SYRACUSE!! I live approx. 15 miles east of Syracuse. I do not have to tell you how much white stuff we get...........right Dave??
My wife and I try to avoid ole man winter now by retreating to Florida for 3 months. Both our children once they got their secondary education moved on to the south. I did, however, love snowmobiling and could NOT wait for the white stuff to come. Now with a bad back I can no longer snowmobile so the south looks better to me each passing year!
Have yourself a super time in Carlisle next weekend!! It is definitely alot of fun. I was their last year for the festivites and had a ball!! I would be going this year but..........we are committed to a wedding.
Have fun & drive safe with those gleaming vettes............Ed!

Wait, there's supposed to be tray in there? Interesting...

Is there also supposed to be a hole in the battery section? I can see the ground when I look in to check the date on the battery.

Get the AIM for your year. It shows how everything was assembled along the assembly line.

Get the AIM for your year. It shows how everything was assembled along the assembly line. Most of the diagrams in the vendor catalogs are diagrams from various year AIM's.
