Okay so I recently changed my power steering hoses (all four) then I added the proper amount of Power Steering Fluid. Started it up and moved the wheel all the way to one side and back and forth to bleed the system. While I was idle and in park it was working fine. There is no more leak and the level is fine. Today I changed my rear diff fluid. I pulled the car out of my garage and as soon as I put it in drive and turned my steering wheel the moaning began. The power steering belt is in good shape. While driving it is not to bad but it is pretty tuff to turn the wheel in either direction. Did I not bleed the system enough? or is my power steering pump going?
Sounds like your power steering pump does not have enough pressure at idle. While you are driving the pump is turning faster and makes it easier to turn.I had the same problem after I changed the hoses and valve the pump was whining and after the pump change it was okay.
Had the same thing happen in my '75. Go down the road at about 35 then bleed it again - turn far right, far left and that solved the problem. "OK,pretend you're in a NASCAR getting the rubber off the tires - don't care that people will give you strange looks.
