Just got email from Ecklers on these saying they are new. Has anyone tried them or seen them? I have to replace mine anyway and I like the looks on the C5 so am thinking about them. http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...m111@yahoo.com
If you like the stock look in LED's Corvette Central has them for more of a stock look. I have a set for my '72, but won't know what they look like for a few more weeks as I'm still doing the wiring. Quality is definitely there just looking at how they are made.
These bulbs are also $49.99 each...you might get a discount for ordering 4, and they are a LOT brighter than the ones listed by the vendors. They work best behind the bubbles, and they are dual intensity just like your standard 1157 bulb. I get lots of compliments and they are so bright that act as reverse lights at night.

Will those bulbs work with the OE lens? I've been toying with the idea of 4 OE style tail lamps with LED bulbs.
I've seen 'em and although LED is great technology for many applications (mostly where saving on energy bills and extended bulb life is the goal) I prefer the more uniformly illuminated appearance of the old traditional bulbs which I don't think anyone has typically ever had a problem seeing at night even from over a 1/2 mile down the road. Although tempting to acquire the latest gadgets, this is one example where Form over-rules Function in my perception. Unless you can't resist them I'd recommend saving the money on this overpriced techno-gizmo and buy yourself a nice pair of shoes, premium beer or something instead. To me this product falls in the neat at first but not really worth it later bucket (kinda like Bill Clinton's or John Edward's affairs or that Presto Electronic Hot Dog Zapper device). I'm by know means a traditionalist but that's my take on 'em.
I'm more worried about being seen in the daytime. people are so used to the third brake light being the main signal for stopping, they might not notice little old me for that extra second. Which might be the difference between a close call and more back injuries for me. :/

Good Points - I see there is plenty of room to install a 3rd brake light in form of a narrow LED strip in that back area of the center roof panel. It looks like it's was made for one. That's in my short term goals list as well.
The halogen bulbs that were once offered as a brighter replacement for the standard 1157s actually melted tail light lenses. These LEDs do not generate heat. They do provide better visability in daytime operation, however.
The reason that I was interested in the ones I posted was because it was the complete lens and assembly. Mine were in bad shape so I threw them out. I figured for $49 ea it was a pretty good deal but want to see them on a car first. I figure they should be brighter than stock just probably not as bright as Durango's
I have LEDs on my C5 and like them. Durangos look good but it appears the bulb alone is that price and I need to cut a few corners where I can to get this thing finished.
I have the 1157 replacement LED bulbs sold for $15/pair at stores like AutoZone in my 77 (converted to four stock taillights). They do just fine illuminating the lens and providing enough light.

Heat is one reason I went to the LED bulbs. My original taillights looked awful after 30 years of being cooked by incandescent bulb heat.
