Default '78 dual tailight problem

I have put one of those kits on my '78 that converts your backup lights to dual taillights. The dual tail light and the stop lights work fine, but the blinkers are very dim and flash real fast, front and rear. I changed the flasher and that didn't help. If I remove the bulb from the newly spliced in socket then the others work fine. Any ideas.

thanks

You may have to use a heavy duty flasher because of the added load from the extra bulb. Do both rear lights come on when they are supposed to, only dim and flash fast ?

yep, you need a heavy duty flasher. You're flashing more bulbs now and the flasher works on current heating up a bimetal strip, which curves and breaks contact, cools bends back and makes contact. It's heating too fast, thus flashing quickly. You can sometimes find flashers rated by number of bulbs. Heavy duty should do it.

A Tung-Sol #323 three-lamp flasher will work.

They also make electronic flashers for the LED crowd. That wil work as well.
