I would go with the 180. You never have enough power. If you go with the 140 you will be running it closer to its maximum a lot. The 180 will be a better machine for the extra 100. Wiring it in is not a big deal if you do not have 230 in the garage.
Go for the 180, no question. You can always turn it down, and big welders run just fine on low power settings.
The larger machines start the weld more smoothly, last longer, don't overheat as easily, have a better quality arc, and of course can weld thicker material. You can get the penetration you need with a 220V machine that a 110V machine simply is not capable of.
