Take your time! If you've never painted a car before, sand, sand some more, look at the car from lots of different perspectives, sand, clean etc... you get my point. Make sure its very, very, smooth, and CLEAN.
What you feel is ready today after a DA probably isn't ready yet..

Even with cheap paints, good preparation and taking your time will yield results. Poor prep and expensive paint will not make the paint job.

OK back to your Q...the cheapest I've used is single stage urethane, PPG Omni. It looks OK, but not the easiest I've ever sprayed. Thin in coverage/color (not so much physically too thin). IIRC, it was around $90/gallon (?). One of PPGs' lower end paints.

Good luck!

I would look into rustoleum roll on paint. I know it sounds like a horrible idea, but it seems to turn out great if you do it right. There is HUGE thread on some mopar forum. Check it out http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/...0&fpart=1&vc=1 It may take hours to read it all, but it is very interseting and legit! I forgot to mention total cost is $50

rustoleum is actually what im using... im not entirely ready to paint.. and i know this, im more excited. im not looking for a 8k paint job.. im lookin for something to drive for about 1.5 months and look relatively like a car. i am currently in red and primer.. the primer had black toasted over the top to spot imperfections. i only sanded the outside.. i need to do at least some of the door and t-top jams. i am DEFINATELY not pulling the doors and stuff off. WAY to much time and work to do this "RIGHT". so far it looks alright, as i said before.. i woulda posted pics now, but no usb cable in sight.
what else has been used?

Paint is not anything I ever look for the "cheapest". Too much time doing prep and repair to cover it up with cheap paint.........
