Default Convertible Decklid Rub Marks - How to prevent?

Greetings, All. First time poster here. I picked up a '69 convertible last month; a barn find, all original with 52k miles. I'm having it repainted and don't want that wear groove in the top of the decklid from the conv top seal to reappear. How do I prevent this from happening on my new paint job?

Advice would be greatly appreciated!

Don't put the top up. Works for me.

I have a strip of paint protection film across the decklid in the shape of the softtop. Can't see it when the top is up, nearly invisible when top is down. Won't blow off if you forget to roll it up.
The 8 thou stuff is all you need.

I just got a sheet of clear plastic from the arts & crafts section at Wal-Mart. Little cut-n-fit and it's works fine. I do like the idea of the 3M paint protection film. Much better idea. But I suspect it was more than $7.00 too.

1st Replace the rear bow weatherstrip -- they crap out with age and allow the bow to rub the paint.

2nd Get the deck lid protector mentioned in the other posts.

Thanks for the feedback, Everyone. I picked up a clear plastic cling-on strip. That should do the trick.
