i won't go into the details that lead me to post this namely that my insurance co has been ripping me off for two years promising agreed value but in reality i did NOT have agreed value coverage. yeah i know. so i'm just going to bail and make the situation right. my problem is that my wife and i only have one daily driver, and then the corvette. (you guys may remember similar posts from me a couple of years ago... you were all really helpfull back then) well, since collecter car insurances need two daily drivers, i only have 2 options: buy a moped or something and call it a daily driver, OR insure one of my in-laws cars as a daily driver... even though, of course, it would be registered under their name, and spend it;s time at their house. whad'ya think?????
Hagerty didn't ask me those questions, My Daily driver is not registered to me so I don't own a daily driver. But ihave hagerty as my collector car insurance
My opinion is be honest up-front. If the (inlaws) car is not in your name they may have a valid reason not to pay if there was ever a need. Don't give them a reason to deny a claim. Most collector insurances require a DD.

i tried that route. we live in the city and my wife walks to work so i couldn't see why we needed TWO dd's!!!???? all the collector's insurances said "no dice". then i made the mistake of getting swindled by state farm for two years until realizing that they werent covering jack.... just TELLING me that they were. i don't want to lie though, yer prob right about that

My collector car insurance company couldnt care less what my DDs are. In fact, my regular insurance company insures my DD and my '03, and the collector car company insures the other 3 Corvettes and Mustang. You are shopping in the wrong places.

Try to contact hagerty, My Daily driver is registered and insured to a corporation and does not belong to me. Hagerty had no issue with this at all. http://www.hagerty.com/Auto/vehicle_qualify.aspx If you read that last statement on the site, it requires you to have a daily driver, not every member in your family.

In eastern canada we have an insurance company called Silver Wheels for classic and antique cars. The rates are great and their demands are few. Certainly I didnt have to provide proof of another car. I dont know if it is available in the US but its worth a search.

like, um , hagerty, grundy, etc... all the ones you guys use. i didn't say they cared WHAT my dd was, or who or what insured or owned it, just that every person in the household HAD one... now you see the dilemna?

Hagerty Doesnt care that every member in your family to have a daily driver or that you own the one in your household just that you do infact have one. I believe grundy & j.c taylor requires this. hagerty doesn't even have any info on my daily driver at all. I just explained the situation and they were ok with it.
When I insured mine with Hagerty I had only one DD. I just explained to Hagerty that the wife and I commuted to work together and they were okay with that. No problem.
Just don't try to get over on the insurance company. If you are insuring the car as a collectable then keep it as that and do not use it outside of the policy requirements. This type of insurance is great so don't ruin it for the rest of us.
whoa!!! that's all news to me. sorry, i guess i stand corrected. it's just that i had an in depth conv with the underwriter at hagarty about this issue and he apoligized profusely but said that, even given the situation, there was nothing that they could do for me. this was last year. i have all of the records etc. i specifically req to sw an underwriter b/c i was astonished that i was the only one in a similar situation and couldn't believe that they were being sticklers to a rule that shouldn't really apply to or people that didn't NEED more than one dd. but, like i said, no dice. hey, i'll try again!

Might have just been the person you got on the phone. I think if you call again and explain you and you wife drive the same car. You should have no problem with them writing you a policy.
You can BS any insurance company to get coverage. They do their serious investigation when you file a claim, then deny coverage for mis-information. Not worth the grief.
HEY HEY HEY.... don't worry, as i said, i'm not gonna go that route. i was just frustrated at the time of posting. i'm sure there's a way i can do this legit. MODERATOR - you can get rid of this thread if you'd like. my ?'s were answered for now and i know that this thread is going to turn repetitive if we start bickering about "agreed value" vs "stated value" etc. and besides, i'm not looking to make any forum enemys
Be very careful here. I had never had Haggerty ask me for anything - mileage, DD info or anything. Well, I had a claim this year and about a month after everything was fixed, I get in the mail a request for everything. Luckily, I was in the middile of moving back from Hawaii and I was bringing my car back from Nashville where I had it stored, they were fine with that, but once I get a DD, I have to send in the info. My advice, get a moped, that's what I'm going to do.
After Allstate was ripping me off insuring my DD/parts chaser truck and Corvette; I checked with Geico. They insured my DD for half what I was paying, so I asked about the Corvette. They referred me to American Standard who insured my Corvette for half what Hagerty was charging me and with the same coverage as on my DD. My Corvette has an agreed replacement value of $29K, but I needed to get it professionally appraised. It has the same mileage limitations Hagerty offered in their policy. My experience would recommend shopping around for the best deal in your area.
I use American Hobbyest on my '69 and other cars. I've used other companies in the past. NOBODY has ever asked about a daily driver. All they care about it the car being insured by them. It is two minute process. State the value and email them a pic, that's it!
Check around.
