Can anyone suggest a good high build primer / topcoat system for me that can be found in local stores pretty easily? I'm planning to paint my firewall and the underneath of my body, but I'm not sure what I should use.
Originally I sealed/primed the firewall with some leftover PPG DP40 I had but have since had to apply some lightweight filler to smooth out some imperfections. I'd now like to apply a primer and topcoat to finish the job. I'd go back to the same PPG product, but it was way too expensive. Whereas this is for the firewall and underneath of the body I don't want to spend a fortune. I prefer a high build primer so I can sand out any remaining imperfections.
Any recommendations?
Thanks,
Tim

Are you working on your '71? You could use a polyester product like Slicksand or one from Glasurit, Standox, Dupont etc, they all offer a high build polyester primer. Slicksand is around $70/gallon If you want a nice epoxy product, SPI epoxy primer is very reasonably priced and builds very nice, much heavier than DP. A two gallon set up is around $170, it comes in either white, grey or black.
Call Barry at SPI and find a jobber near you (404) 307-9740.

Yep, still plugging away at the 71. Thanks for the leads, I'll check those out.
