I bought a 68 with an engine that i was told was a 327 out of an older vette. Casting on the back is 3834810. Says 283 from 64 to 66 car truck or marine. Its the stamp in front of the head i am trying to decipher. TOII6D any ideas on that one?
Thanks Tony L.

3834810 is a 283ci ....

T = Tonawanda (engine build facility)
OII6 = January 16th
D = 1958-64 Impala 170-195hp base engine with PowerGlide and 2Brl carburetor.

No small block Corvette engines were made in Tonawanda. If you really want the specific year for this block, there is a casting date located rear passenger side, behind the distributor.

Thats a nice car, exactly the same as the one I bought in June with a 307 in it. I plan to put a ZZ4 in it next year. Dave
