Hey all: I have rebuilt nearly everything on my 78. Now it's time for the A/C and heat. I want to replace all A/C with brand new, but I live in FL and will never need the heat. I want to take out the bulky heater core (in engine bay) and free up some engine space and clean up the engine compartment some. Has anyone done this? I have alot of friends with old Chevelles that have done this and lots of great looking classic cars also. My heat blows all the time and kills me when I'm driving. I know the heater valve is bad, but I don't know if I want to invest into the heater if I'm never going to use it. It's not a car built on originality, so I'm not worried about resale value- it's my own creation, but tastefully done. Look at my album photos if you need pics. Any advice would be great...DDBS
Even if you remove the heater core (which is a little hard to do), you'll still have to keep the whole evaporaor box, so you'll not get any space saving under the hood.
Yeah............ what he said. But you can eliminate the heater hoses and that would clean up the right side of the motor compartment . OR.................Since this car doesnt have to stay "stock" you could eliminate the whole stock system and go with an aftermarket A/C kit that would place the whole system in the interior of car........... except for the compresor and lines to the front condenser and then you could eliminate the heater core and lines
there are a few guys that did or are doing one form or another of these installs.you need to pick the one that suites your needs
