I finally got my 78 running, it was a beautiful thing until my power steering pump start spraying fluid. Has anyone had this problem before? Do I need to replace the pump, or can I rebuild it.
Also, I have an electric fan that I need to hook up. I bought a wiring kit from the local parts store, it says that I need to connect the yellow wire to a 12v constant sorce, what is the best place to connect it under the hood and the green wire to the AC switch, the AC has been removed from my car, should I hook it up to anything or just tape it off?
I have my 12 volt constant wire tapped into my red alternator wire. There have been debates about hooking it up there. I have a serpentine belt set up with a very high amp alternator so I have no problem. Another and probably the best source for the 12 volt constant is the battery. Is your power steeriing fluid leaking from the pump or from a line? You probably need to clean up everywhere and get a closer look.
Well, I went out and cleaned up the mess, the leak is definitely coming from the front of the pump. Should I try to rebuild it or just buy a new one. thanks
If it were me I would just run down to the local parts store and buy an overhauled pump with a lifetime guarantee unless you are planning on keeping everything all matching.
i agree, lifetime warranty.. my pump sprang another leak, which ran pump dry, which equals bad. took pump back and they said heres your new one. cant beat that! and it was only 50 bucks? not bad if you ask me!
