On my 71 with power steering I am getting a clicking or snapping noise when turning the steering wheel and this seems to have gotten worse over the past 6 months. The power steering pump and cylinder have been replaced but I've never done anything with the steering box or to the steering column. The other day when driving it slipped a bit when turning a curve on the highway which was a bit startling and moved the repair way up on my priority list.
Any thoughts on the possible cause would be greatly appreciated.
Does it only happen on one place during the steering motion, when you go from full lock to full lock...or does it continually do it as you turn the wheel?
It seems to be worse when first backing out of the garage and turning the wheel. It occurs at the beginning of turning the wheel in one direction and at the beginning of turning the wheel in the opposite direction. The last time it occurred it actually seemed to offset the alignment of the steering wheel.
