There is some black paint and primer on the chrome trim that lines the front windshield and has started to fade. I was wondering what is the best way to remove it, without damaging the chrome finish. I guess the previous owner thought it looked better this way or is that the way it came from the factory?
Get some Acetone from the hardware store and use a soft cotton rag to remove it. If Acetone does not do the trick there are other products. Just use soft cotton so you dont abrade the surface.
All of my trim is currently off of my car in which case I removed old paint, car wax residue etc... with 000 steel wool soaked in penetrating oil. Following that I polished all of the trim with a buffing wheel and jewlers rouge polishing compound that I bought from Eastwood. The parts look like brand new with no scratches, blemished etc...

First off, it's not chrome plated, it's stainless steel. Regular black paint won't adhere to stainless or chrome, over a short period of time it will flake off. I believe Eastwood sells a black trim paint. Factory GM parts were painted then paint was baked on. GOOD LUCK...................B
