Default Ebay Question

Can someone please explain this? private listing - bidders' identities protected.
I cannot find an explanation on the eBay site.
Thanks

It means the seller chose to hide the bidders identity.

So nobody knows who bid or bought the item.

Could also hide the fact that the seller is a Schiller also.

Thanks! I'm leaning toward the seller did not like the final sale price. I was the only bidder on a New old stock GM 3994339 sealed gas cap at $34.99.

IMO, there has been some pretty shady stuff going on at e-bay on Corvette parts. I am about ready to give up and just get some repro stuff from the vendors here. Then, I'll just try to find the original stuff at shows and back-fill later. I am relatively new to e-bay, but from what I have experienced so far, the place is pretty useless.

If you won it, you won it. Being the only bidder does not allways mean you get the item. It might not have met the "reserve" price. Hiding the bidders identity has nothing to do with winning the auction. Post the number of the auction here and we can take a look at it for you.

Keep in mind that the seller can claim the item is stolen, accidentaly broken, lost, etc. so you don't allways get your stuff even if you do win it.

worst idea yet for ebay. Not only can someone run up the part and not pay and you have no clue who it was (to block them) but the seller himself can get his buddy, or another account and run up the price too and you never are the wiser.

Ever seen simple things like distributor caps that cost $15.00 go for close to $100 at times with 1 guy bidding numerous times for it? until another auction site comes to town that is able to compete we just have to put up with it cause they certainly dont listen to your complaints. [/rant off]

I didn't win it. I put in the minimum bid at 34.99. It sold for 35.99 with no reserve. I was just curious why the secret identity. It shows the buyers identity when you look at the sellers buyer feedback history.

I've been buying and selling for on eBay for long time and you used to be able to snag some pretty good deals. Not so much anymore.

The hidden ID of the bidders was something E-Bay implemented as I understand it. I have ran ads that I did nothing to prevent other bidders from seeing the names of all bidders. But the names were hid any way

1 reason was to prevent someone with a like item from contacting the loosing bidders and offer to sell same item that they just lost without E-Bay getting their listing fee and final selling price fee.

You were not the only bidder. There was a second bidder. He outbid you.

I don't see any obvious issues here. If you are concerned about the potential for shill bidding then just snipe your bids at the last minute. You will either get it at a price you can accept to or it just goes away.

As for the secret identity auctions - some times you need to do that. There are some people out there that have no problem interfearing with bidders and sellers involved in an auction. It isn't needed for every auction but I can see the need for it depending on the item. All you need is one auction that goes bad due to someone elses interfearance and you would understand why people want to protect the bid list.

Mark,
That makes sense. The seller does have a great feedback rating. I'll chalk it up as just being outbid. I just took a stab at trying to get a nice part on the cheap and it just doesn't work that way anymore with eBay.
