Default 68' Tail Lights

A friend of mine recently purchased a 68 and while following him yesterday I noticed something funky with his brake lights. Brake lights work as they should during normal application, BUT, when a turn signal is on and the brakes are applied the lights on the side opposite the turn signal do not illuminate. In other words, brake lights or turn signal, but not both. I had a similar problem with my C1 and it turned out to be an adjustment problem with the switch in the steering column. Any ideas from you C3 guys?

Sounds like a rear harness grounding problem.

I considered a possible grounding problem but dismissed it because I figured a bad ground would effect the lights consistantly and not just in various configurations. Am I wrong? In other words, I thought a bad ground which effected the brake lights on 1 side would also effect the turn signals on that side. Thanks for your input.
