Default Preference for Wiper Compartment Cover?

Getting ready to order one fro my 79...any preference, Zip, vs Eckler's vs other?? Are these the same item, just a different pic?

Zips:

Eckler's:

I have the one from Ecklers on my Vette. Fit is good, though it's hard to get it on over the wipers. Best to install with a friend.

I don't currently even have it secured down except just held in my the hood when it's closed. However, I plan on using well nuts and screws in a perimeter pattern to hold it down.

It comes black, but they look very nice sanded, prepped, and painted.

Thanks Matt. My car is black...would you recommend painting it or just go as is? I expect it might look real sweet with a satin finish like trim black.

I recommend spending the time to paint it. Curt and I both have one on our cars. Curt prepped and painted his and I left mine as it came. His looks MUCH better. I plan on painting mine when I get into doing the body work and body paint.

Got mine from CC and today they just posted a 10% off sale.

Save yourself $5. The pics make them appear different so dont know if they truly are. The price is all the same.

Thanks Karol! Great timing since I had some other things to order...saved a pretty good amount and they sure look like the same part.

Enjoy, Steve

I originally bought one from Ecklers and used double sided tape to hold it in place but when I had to remove it to work on my wipers the thin plastic split in two places. So I made a pattern from the original and hand laid a new one in a thicker fiberglass, so now it won't split when I remove it.

I like your paint-to-match look. I may have to try that!!!! I used black aluminum pop rivets to secure mine. I'll just have to drill them out if I ever need to remove.

Here's a pci:

I definitely recommend the fiberglass one from RIK's Corvette- $99. MUCH better quality than the thin plastic ones which tend to break at the narrow edge of the wiper blade hole. I had to slightly sand one of the short ends to make it fit- not a big deal. Its painted to match the car. I'm using two short pieces of velcro, on double sided tape (from a craft store) secured at the middle above the fire wall, to hold it in place.

I have the one from Ecklers,,, sanded, primed and painted black. For easy removal I used double sided velcro. Looks great, no fitment issues.

i was seriously looking into this part too. but my wipers are restored and dont want to take a chance scratching the paint. How much space do the wipers have to move in there? Obviously you would have to remove that wiper holder at the bottom too or no?

i bought the one from Ecklers and used velcro to attach. i cutout the plastic part that encloses the wiper and did a lil decorating on the cover. it does a great job of hiding the hideous wiper compartment. been on now approx 14yrs.

Do you have a pic of the heavy-duty version?

OK,I got the sturdy, fiberglass version for Christmas from Rik'S (actually ACI). It was gel-coated and needed some sanding, priming, and painting. Now done. But there are no attachment instructions?? How do these things go on? Just Goop adhesive?

Paul,

Double Stick will hold it, but some people will use screws to hold them in. I would use the double stick for the simple fact that I don't like making any new holes.

Great thread!
based on a few posts here including the one with the picture posted by rosslato, I just ordered the Ecklers wiper cover.
Can't wait for it to arrive and get that clunky looking area finally covered up.

I hid my wipers under the cover since I never use 'em & used screen to cover the holes. Clean baby........
