Default parking brake on 77

I am putting new rotors, calipers all around. I got the parking brake assembly today from mid america and the website has installation instructions that weren't as clear as I would have liked. Anyone know a site where I can get detailed instructions AND diagram?

As to above, any easy suggestions on how to keep caliper pistons depressed while installing? Thanks

Most vendors and a few of your local parts stores will have clips that slide over the sides of the caliper to hold the pistons in while you install the calipers. Then you pull the clips out.

Don't know if you need therear PB info or the PB console.

Here is a how-to for the rear PB.

To keep the pistons in, you can go to the hardware and buy a small sheet of steel and cut and bend your own. they look like this:

Did brakes today, no need for the piston retention clip, just an excuse to spend $8. I used a grinder to put a slit in an old flat screwdriver, and away I went. Thanks for the help. But now new problems arise. The parking brake cable doesnt move when I pull the brake lever. So I have to take apart the parking brake lever and check it out. I ordered a few manuals today (Chilton, GM small block repair, etc...) and hope to tackle the parking brake issue next week, does anyone know where I can find detailed instructions w/or w/o diagram to replace parking brake cables? Thanks.

I replaced the parking brake shoes and cables on my 80 vette. The haynes auto repair manual helps some. The lever on the console had to be taken lose to change the short cable. If everything is still hooked up before you start, remember how it was hooked up or draw a diagram. I got the kit from mid-america, and it had no diagram or instructions. It took a while to figure out that the disc/drum assembly was riveted on at the factory. Had to drill out the rivet heads to get the disc/drum off. Changing out the rear cable is not so bad. Just remember how the cable is routed. Hope this much helps you. T.R.
