I'm thinking of uncapping mine. It's loud, but I want it louder. I really don't want to drill, because then you can't go back. You could always reweld the caps back on.
You know what would be really slick would be some kind of valve that opens and closes the cap without having to take anything apart. I'd love to run straight pipes when the cops go by and open pipes otherwise.
But anyways, does anyone have any before/after comments?
Why did you shorten them? Just curious. And did you run them in the car capped and full length before you uncapped and shortened them?
I found the "tone" changed when I shortened them. The beauty is that they are steel, takes two bolts to remove and I can weld them back if I dont like them.
I must be getting old. When I'm cruisin' and a Harley pulls up with its baffles out - I and roll up my windows. My own test is this... No one should be able to hear you more than 2 blocks away. Any more than 2 blocks ...
But thats just me- and I'm getting old

Well of course. Who wants to hear a harley? We all know a sbc sounds best when it's open headers, so uncapped baffles can't be too bad.
[QUOTE=Daytona69;1567754482]Mine were uncapped on my old '69...this vid gives an idea on the noise level but really doesn't do it justice. I loved the sound
Is your engine stock?? Sounds good.Im thinking of uncapping now that i've seen your video!! I currently have a 1/2" drilled out.
