The rear compartments on these cars are rather bland, not very durable and expensive for what they are. Surely some of you guys have had some rather innovative ideas of some custom replacements?

I replaced my 3 door compartment with a 2 door system from a later C3. I did away with the hinges, and use simple covers with a pull handle to pull them up.
I found a stock plastic tray for the passenger side. I installed a power inverter under the tray, and put a switch and plug in it there where you can access it easily.
It's very easy to reach in, pull up the cover and get access to the compartment or battery, and I can still store tools and such under the plastic tray.
I was thinking line the passengers side with extra insulation (like extra Reflectix from the cabin) and make a plastic liner. Then install a drain, as I think there is already a hole in the bottom (maybe not) and turn that compartment into a cooler for beer or soda...
I had mine set up as a cooler when I was in college in my 77. It already had a drain plug (maybe factory or someone else added) and one jumbo bag of ice lasted all night.
I am liking this one too. Wonder how to get past the issue of the amp in the way of the jack when you have a flat in the middle of the night in the middle of that place in Egypt.
