Default Reasonable garage heater?

My C3 stays in here so it is C3 related. Need good recommendation for a decent garage heater for a 24x28 garage. 10' ceilings. Insulated walls and doors. Temp usually gets down in the mid 20's to mid 30's all winter outside. I want to stay electric and can acommodate 220v. I was looking at the Dayton G73. Other suggestions with model numbers?

I looked at that unit as well but my garage is around 900 sqft with 10ft ceilings and felt I needed something a little bit bigger so I'm going with the Northern tool Fahrenheat electric heater 7000 watts/25600 BTU that can hang from the ceiling. They also have a smaller one 5000watts/17000 BTU. #174040-2901 & 17303-2901.
This unit may be at the borderline size for my garage but then I'm not wanting to walk arond in my underwear either. I just need to knock the chill down a bit now and then.
Hope this helps.

That's the same one I got for my garage the 5000 watts/17000 BTU one. It takes my garage from 30 degrees to about 60 65. And I have a 800 ft garage I have mounted in the back half which is where I work any way. And it's on sell now for $249 down from $299. You will need 10 gage wire to install the heater is rateded at 21 amps 240v.

Is the farenheit a knock off of the Dayton? The specs seem to be close to the same. I can get the Dayton G73 for $265 with free shipping. Good deal?

I've had the Dayton in my 800sf garage for 15 years and it does a good job.I've replaced the therm a couple times.Next time I will wire in a wall therm. I also have a light tree with 3 spots in it that is behind me most of the time.

I bought the Dayton G73 as well last week and I have an electricial coming out tomorrow to run a 240v 30 amp service to the garage (cost of the line $325). I have a 3 car garage, insulated, 10'6" ceiling and I will need two 17,000 BTU heaters. I think electric is the best way to go because you don't have all the condensation you have with other flame heaters, don't have to worry about venting or open flames and don't have to worry about carbon monoxide.

Here is a link to help you figure out how much BTU you will need. It's a simple matter of mathematics. Volume vs temp delta with insulation considered.

http://www.heatershop.com/btu_calculator.htm

Here is where I got my heater. Free shipping.

I have a Dayton 3VU36, 220V plug in unit. Winter daytime temps typically 20's & 30's in Detroit. Garage is 20x24 with 10' ft. ceiling.
Turn it on a hour before I want to work in the garage and the temp gets to a comfortable 60 * or more.
Very satisfied with this unit.

This is a timely post for me. I put thermals on yesterday to change the oil in my wife's car. Thanks for the info.

Hey Guys, does anybody have a ball park on the electrical cost to run those heaters? I live in New England ,I run a 15,000 btu salamander kerosene heater and I use about 6 Gals a week to to heat in the winter. 5days ,6 hour days. That's with the temp around 30-40 and the garage is 23x22 ( 500 sq ft ) un-insulated with open ceiling to the 14 foot peak . Would I be cheaper to run an electric heater. I pay around $4.00 a gallon for fuel.
I just putzs around in there playing with the Vette and I can keep the temp to around 65 Deg. The only thing I really hate are the fumes!!!!!!
Something that smeels that bad can't be good for ya???
I have a 220 line already for my Air Compressure, so it would only be the cost of the heater for installation.
Thanks ,
Dario

get rid of the kerosene heater.... especially in a closed garage...... you could always do a wood stove which gives you a better heat....

What model #? Aren't they supposed to be hard wired? Did you just wire a plug in with an extension?

Come on now, you really don't know what a baller is??? Please don't try to make a childish sexual content remark.

"Baller" is a big money, big spender, rich person. I'm broke and got no money to spend, I'm retired Air Force.

I see you meant "wire in a wall thermostat" Not "wire into the wall" Misunderstood. My plan is to hardwire. What kind of temp rise do you get from yours?

Couple days ago the outside temp was 40, inside the garage was 50,turned the heater on and therm to high and in 1 hour the temp was 65.Not too bad for a pretty big area.
