Your points are well taken, and I agree, greed, fear and panic are all part of the landscape. People get into a euphoria, this time it`s different ( stock market, real estate ,what have you ),then the pop.
Then comes the headless chicken syndrome.

To blindly follow government, and believe it`s there to help... it is themselves, and don`t forget their partners in crime the bankers.
They are all in place to extract the dollars from your pocket.

Debt free...really means you are free, well as free as can be.

So to anyone that is deep in it, you will have to do what you have to do to get out, if it comes to selling your vette ,that is unfortunate but when times get liquid again bye a better one.

To me everything is on sale at the moment. Mutual funds, houses, cars, etc. I am not selling anything, not buying anything extra. I'm just letting it ride. It will all work out, and I have plenty of time. I think the best advice is not to panic.

I am putting the gold plated toilet on hold. On a higher note, I don't owe anyone a red cent, I bought some stocks today that are 10x less than they were a few months ago.

Live within your means and put some money in a shoe box in a hole in your back yard ( fairly safe from bankers stealing your money there ) , it will get worse before it gets better

Default So will the Glory Days return?

OK I posted this thread, my questions were rhetorical so don't sell your vette or house for a loss.

My real question is will the Glory Days return? I lived thru the sixties and seventies when our economy limped along. When Reagan took over we had a 20 year rocket ride.....but the last year has been a crash landing.

I see it this way. the glory days will return, It will take awhile. I just hope that this is a wake up to show the BS the government, Banks, Creditors,etc... have been pulling for years. If that gets fixed your glory days will return.

I lost 35% of the value on my 401k but it is still worth more than the out of pocket bucks I invested. I just did not make as much.
I'm still ahead. I do move investment choices around regularly though in the plan

Reagan turned things around by making Americans proud of themselves. This newfound patriotism, counteracted the burden of government that was felt under Carter, along with lower taxes (Carter tax rate of 70%, vs. Reagan 28%), led to more R&D, innovation, and job creation. More jobs = happy people = economic growth!

I believe we are in for Carter II. Obama, is proposing all the things that Carter did, increase taxes, cut military, welfare state.

But things are much different now, back then the percentage of people that had prior military service was MUCH higher, so it was much easier to bring out their latent patriotism, and patriotism has a way of spreading. Now, we as a society are moving to the left at a very high rate, and the left does not want patriotic Americans, they want a people to be part of a 'global society' - ie. socialists. We are now (with Obama) so far down this path, I don't think we will ever be able to turn it around.

By the end of the next 4 years, the US will no longer be considered a 'super power'. Climate change legislation will have led to what Chirac called the worlds first true 'global governance' under UN control. The left will have put in place legislation to insure that they will be able to maintain their grip on power - fairness doctrine, card check, voter reform (same day registrations most likely) legislation.

So yes, I believe the glory days are gone. America is on the path of becoming just a 'bit player' on the global stage - America needs to 'spread it's wealth around', and that's exactly what the left is going to do!

What is really a pitiful joke about music is the music BUSINESS. Damn near impossible for musicians to make any good money. Damn near impossible for music consumers to get the music they want at a reasonable price. Too many consumers stealing music and too many music businessmen who refuse to accept that the market has changed dramatically are screwing up the whole process. Right now, those two groups are preventing the other two groups (musicians and honest consumers) from conducting decent business. I hope that eventually it all works itself out, but it sure doesn't seem to be happening very quickly.

Hi PK,
Do you by any chance follow the collector guitar market? I have a '72 Gretsch Chet Adkins Country Gentleman, a '63 Gretsch Clipper, a '75 Gibson SG Special Edition and a few other guitars along with my '60's Ludwig Drums.
I hope the market remains steady....I'll probably be liquidating when I sell my '71 LS5 and move into a retirement home.

I wouldnt be so upset if it were only 20% thats an aceptable amount of plus / minus movement in any aggressive portfolio.

I can assure you that you wouldnt want to own my 22 year accumulation of 100,000 plus shares of "GM" stock / & / 401 K plan.

The reason I could afford the car is a direct result of the bad economy. I just hope the day doesn't come where I have to unload it. I'm grateful for everything I have, and realize it all could be gone in a bilnk of an eye.

Touching on the subject of a recent thread, I met a fellow at a show in September who had purchased an absolutely gorgeous C4 convertible (1993, green with tan top) for $5,500. That is less than a good paint job!
I agree with those who say wait it out. The beauty of the market is it's ability to correct itself (market equilibrium). Those who panic and sell now will be the biggest losers. I'm not saling any of my things. I'll hold on and ride it out.
