Has anyone mounted a muffler between the headers and the side-pipes ? basicly where the four pipes from a set of hookers would go under the chassis, I was thinking of mounting a muffler there and have nothing in the side-pipes (baffles, mufflers, etc). Has anyone got any pro's or con's about this idea??. It's a 350 in a 75 thanks.
I know a guy that built his own side pipes and mounted some high flow CATs right where you are describing. If I recall they quieted the tone down. If you could find mufflers that were small enough I think it would work but there isn't much room down there.
Just captured this photo with my cell phone last week. Its from the new mercedes SLR mclaren. notice the exhaust right behind the front wheel. car is pretty cool but the price isnt.
Thanks for the feedback, basicly I thought of this out of nessesity and the want of side-pipes!, and not living in the land of the almighty $ (look at the AUS to US $ exchange rate) makes it hard to aquire parts and if you do find somthing the seller thinks he's the only one in the world with a computer and the internet so the price is usually 3-4 times that which you see in the US, and try this little test, walk into a speed shop in the US and ask for a set of extractors for a 1962 EH Holden with stage 2 yella terra head on a 179 HP block !!! yes thats the same look I get when I ask for somthing for a 75 vette. Sorry for rabbiting on but anyway like they say any help is better than no help at all. thanks again.
