Default 75 Fuel Tank Bladder

Any advise out there as to removing the bladder form a 75-77 Gas Tank? Are they made of rubber and do they dry up and crack? Can the 75 reproduction tanks be used without the bladder. If so can it be detected by NCRS judging.

pulled it out of our 75 years ago because it collapsed and couldn't fill the tank. You can't tell. You remove it and cut the rubber flange to reuse as the cover gasket.

Whenever I see this topic I always think of Paul (You out there Paul?) Borowski. He actually wrote an article on this topic that was published in the NCRS Restorer Magazine!

dang! do a search under his name with keyword "bladder" and you get a few hundred hits.
Paul is da bladder King!

...Hey Marc, thanks for the plug. I've been "bladderless" since '94 and loving it although the Depends get expensive after awhile.

...how's North Carolina been treating ya'. See ya...

......just neatly "cut away" the bladder to leave or make a gasket for the access panel to attach to the fuel tank. Save that "bladder material" too. It makes great jackstand pads, tool drawer lines, etc.

...at some point, just like urethane bumpers, eventually ALL '75-'77 bladders will collapse, just some sooner than others...

Still got my bladder . But seriously, mine has not collapsed at all. Can still get 17-18 gallons into the car when empty.

Default 75 Gas Tank Bladder

Thanks for all the input. My intent now will be to remove the bladder but cut out and retain the gasket area.

I pulled my '75 tank last spring to check the bladder and it is like new and still tight to the walls of the tank. If yours still lays against the sides of the tank, I say leave it in until you notice a problem.
