I'm looking at the sharkbar two hoop roll bar for my 70 convertible and been searching for the last 4 hours.
I found this pic.
I'm trying to find out if anyone has any pictures of how they installed the rollbar, where it mounted at & what it looks like in the car installed. Also wanting to hear any pro's / con with having them in the car. Does the roll bar base mount utilize the lower seatbelt hole? Can I still use them with my hardtop on the car? Do I need different seatbelts. Is there any restriction with the seat backs going all the way back.
I did try to download the instructions from one site but couldnt get access.
Any info will help, and thanks.
from Vetteworksonline. Dan Haggerty, the owner told me that I could get my hardtop on. Give him a call,he'll be glad to answer any questions.Tell him Walker from NC told you to call.
Thank you eagle275 and thanks for the information with the link.
From your post it sounds like you have this roll bar in your car.
Do you have or should I say can you tell me of any problems or dislikes you may have with either the installation or any kind of obstructions.
Thanks again.
Here is my non chrome non hoop Shark bar in my 72 vert. You can see how it is mounted. It not only provided a place to mount the belts but seriously tightened up the body tub. I used to have rattles going over RR tracks and such. No more. Very tight.
I've got the same setup as Gordomn, except his mounts a little differently to the floor on his rear supports.
Beleive we have the same 5pt belts too.

They weren't cheap but they are the most comfortable that I've felt for a street driven car. Well...cheaper than a Simpson belt.

Here's a picture of a customer's early 70's Vette. The Sharkbar 3R uses the soft top B-pillar sub frame mounts & the rear retractor anchor. It mounts the same as the non-hoop style. It does not restrict soft or hard tops and you can still use the factory safety belts.
Pro:
1. Will stiffen your sub frame, which is very week on C3 Convertibles.
2. No modifications to your Corvette.
3. Provides anchors points for a 5 pt Harness.
4. looks very cool!!! and will separate you from the rest.
5. Roll Bar can be removed in a few minuets.
Con:
You will loose a little seat travel back.
Call me for more details.
Thanks,
Dan

The current Sharkbar 3R roll bar for 68-75 vettes will work with 68-77 coupes. The interrior quarter panels may have to be modified.
I will have hoops for 78-82 coupes in the near future.

Another Question: It looks like I'm seeing two different styles of support gussets for the roll bars. Does or will the double hoop shark bar set up come with the type of gusset that is in Gordonm pictures that utilize the the shoulder belt bolt hole. That style would be better for me.
Thanks.
I'll let Dan answer this for sure but I think the difference is coupe vs convertible. Obviously mine is a convertible mount and the other picture is a coupe mount if I'm not mistaken. The Verts mount is where the top mounts and the coupes are a different mount style.
I'm wrong on this one looking at it closer. I think maybe it has to do with the year of the car instead. The early sharks I do not think had the shoulder belt mount.

The roll bar struts are either on top or inside of the wheel well due to the changes between the years. The 68 & 69 Corvette coupes have the rear shoulder retractor anchors in the lower potion of the wheel well panel; so the struts for the coupes have to be anchored behind the harness bar. From 1970 to 1973 GM moved the shoulder retractor to the top of the wheel well. This is why the harness bar is directly mounted over the shoulder anchor holes and the strut is positioned in front of the harness bar. On a side note, both of factory shoulder harness designs by GM were not very well engineered. The shoulder belt attachment point falls significantly below the driver's shoulder, thus a spinal compression injury is likely to occur. In an accident situation, the shoulder belts pull down and back on the torso as they resist the forward motion of the driver. The resultant restraint force compresses the spinal column and will add to the stresses in the spine already caused by the force of the crash impact.
All convertibles are based off the 68-69 design due the limited space.
I hope this cleared up the designs are different.

I already have the first sharkbar, can I add on the hoops?
