I have a '77 vette that recently started to literally slide around on the rear end. Even driving in a straight line it constantly sways left and right rather drastically, is it actually sliding around on the axle? what can i do to fix this? While parked if you look from behind the fender sticks over the one wheel more than the other depending on which way it slid last. it all started after my immature sister took a "joy ride" in this dangerously powerful and light car, ever since this event it's never been the same
I have a GM ZZ4 350/355 motor dropped in my vette and it's an awesome ride, i want to get it back on the road and keep turning heads! please help!
Sounds like trailing arm bushings. Jack the car up and try to pull the bottom and rear of the tire on either side, see what you find. Most likely alot of movement, which means the bushings are shot. Take a look at the axle stubs on the diff. See if there are any signs of metal to metal wear.
Just had my TA bushings replaced which made a big improvement. That and the fact that somehow the bolts holding the diff to the frame cross member were LOOSE like 1/4" . The restoration/performance shop which specializes in vettes guessed they had never been fully tight as the cross-member showed no indication of ever having been removed.
Next step is an alignment to get the camber corrected, especially on the right rear. Will be installing a set of smart struts, replacing the stock ones.
