K for month of production. 07 for day of the month.
Corvette production usually began in August each year, but there are exceptions. August would be the first month of production and coded A; September would be B, etc. K was usually June.
K07 on the tag shown indicates the car passed that station on the assembly line where the tag was attached on June 7th. The car would not have not been complete on that day and would probably have needed another day or day and a half to be finished.
Bowling Green cars show the month of production and the week of the month, but not a specific day.
...Car VIN can not be above 30464 for cars of 1973"...
Black Book says 4000 VIN numbers were lost for the 73 models (24001 thru 28000). I'm guessing the calculator needs to be tweaked.
When I enter 41660 for my '68, the calculator says Friday, April 19th. That's incorrect. Trim tag says Saturday, April 20th. For my '80, 20262, the calculator is correct.
I just tried that calculator and it worked well. The date I got from the program was August 6th, 1980. My car was actualy shipped the next day on August 7th per the GM paperwork I just purchased so that sounds about right. I have not matched up the trim tag yet but it should be in line with these dates. Month end serial numbers are known for most years and production rates would be fairly constant so this isn't rocket science. You will always have a few statistical "out layer" points but most of the time the dates will fall into place.
This is what I got when I tried to enter my last 5 (31945) of the VIN "Car VIN can not be above 30464 for cars of 1973". My car has a 2 July 73 build date, L 02
I'm not sure why it doesn't work for you..
I changed the year from 1968 to 1973 ..
I put in your 31945 number ..
The birthday comes out to be July 2, 1973 ..
so I put in 40000 as the number and it just says "undefined". Maybe your browser is the problem?? I tried a few times to replicate your response "Car VIN can not be above 30464 for cars of 1973" and I all I get is "undefined" as a response. I use Safari and Firefox and have no problem using the calculator ... ???
