Default Ideal Speed

Hi.
I've got some problems with the ideal speed of my 82 Crossfire.
Normaly it should have 700-750 rpm. Starting the engine up it ideals the first 2-3 min at 900 rpm then goe's down to ca. 750 rpm.
But it won't stay there. It slowly encreases the rpm to 1000, goe's back to 700 up to 900 rpm ...... It won't stay at 700-750 rpm.
I've already changed the plugs, ignition wires, distributor and rotor and relaced the lambdasonde but I'm still not satisfied
The black box tells me no failure!
In some German literatur I've read something about a " Stage 2 chip"
which should make the engine runs smoother , and it's easy to replace it. True or false?
Perhaps someone has or had the same problems and could give me some support.
Greetings from Germany Guido

Hi Guido:

Looks like no one knows the answer to your question, but I wonder if it is a spelling mistake causing the lack of response. I think you mean idle speed. I passed over this thread several times before I decided to click on it because I had no idea what an "ideal" speed would be. Maybe try posting your question again asking for guidance on idle speed.

I can't give you any guidance on computer controlled cars myself, I can barely understand the mechanical choke on my car!

I've heard a common issue with the x-fire is with the throttle bodies needing to have some bronze bushings installed as a result of the original design wearing out and leaking - the site above should be able to guide you through diagnosing whether yours need this done. Many others have seen better results from installing a fuel pump from newer vettes in their '82. Apparently the original one was not designed to provide enough PSI to keep engine happy. These are a couple commone issues but of course you may have something else like a vacuum hose leak or ??
