Hey all. The heater fan on my '79 does not work. Is it the switch or a fuse I can check and replace? Thanks in advance for any help.
go to the passanger side of the vette look inside the fendor and you will see you blower motor ... just on the other side of your heater core should be where your power wire plugs in if its not hooked up then you know it just does not have power.. if it is then you may want to remove it and put power to it to see if it spins if it doesnt id replace it.
Also make sure the ground is hooked up.Do you have any speeds at all? They usually run on low all the time..Do you have a test light or voltmeter to work with?
I think before I would tamper with anything I would confirm the motor works. You can do this by running 12v. to the plug. Just run the 12v. first and then if the motor works proceed to look for other items.
If the motor fails to run, install a verified ground to the motor and apply the 12 volts again.
If the motor then fails to run you know you have a bad motor. If the motor runs I would test the resistor, make sure the blower relay is plugged in and if all else fails trouble shoot the heater control assembly.
The blower motor is controlled by the heater control switch in the shifter console, the resistor and the relay. Anyone of these could cause a failure in the motor function.
There are other things you can check but this may give you a good start.
A longtime C4 owner now straying into C3 territory...
I now own a 1979 Coupe with heating and AC.
My blower control switch is as finicky as some of my ex-girlfriends. The blower works if the swtich is jiggled around, then stops once any pressure is taken off the switch. I have no desire to spend 150 bucks for the heater control module if there is a way to repair the blower switch.
Has anybody attempted this fix? If so, is it easily doable or do you have to have the patience of a rock to work on the thing?
I'm going into the dash to replace the antiquated sound system next week and the blower switch is going to be my "must do" thing.
Any info/directions/advice will be greatly appreciated.

It's cake and a $12 or so part....Take the console, side rug panels, off for access to the HEATER CONTROL SWITCH....Just replace that and your problems will be gone. The switch is more than likely shot.

You don't know how much I love reading that...
And I found the switch in a Corvette Central book. I'm ordering one now.
my blower motor (hamster wheel in fender) runs all the time the car is on. i read that this is normal. is it?
Yes, that's the way it is designed. Low gets power from the fuse box & bypasses the switch.
I changed low to off a long time ago.
Blower A/C Vent
Low to Off
There is a 4 wire T connector at resistor connection on A/C evap. box under hood on pass. side forward of the high blower relay & hood spring. Pull connector & bend down the connector to dk. brown wire & reconnect.
Forward speed will push air through the system even w/ blower off.
If someone is running the A/C on low then leave low connected.

There are 2 fuses & low bypasses the switch so if it doesn't run in any speed, check the blower as it could be wore out from running full time.
I realize this is an old thread, but I had the same issue as American Raven. I ordered a new switch and it didn't fix the problem. This is one of those "DUH!" moments. I had the top lever in the "OFF" position, but didn't realize it because OFF is hidden by the lever when you are looking at the console from the driver's position. I just thought I would add that information because it probably falls in the category of "Make sure it's plugged in" or "Does it have power".
