Default hi perf stamp

found the letters HI PERF then the numbers 99 (at least i think they are 99) on my 72 454 CE block next to the oil pressure sending unit.

just curious as to what the stamp means.

Confirms your engine block is for a passenger car and not one of the lower horse power truck blocks,

well the cars engine is a CE engine. I also know that the stamp on the heads are say that th heads are from a 67 427 L36.

The stammp on the back of the block says 3999289 which according to this site
http://www.nastyz28.com/bbcmenu.html
means it is a 72-78 2 bolt car and truck block.

however. since i took the oil pan off i know it is a 4 bolt.

this site
http://www.ajgeneral.com/bbc_block_casting_numbers/

says it is a block from a 72 vette, 72 chevelle, 72-76 passenger, and 73-79 truck

And I'll ask for the third time- how do you know this engine was installed as a warranty replacement in your particular car?

A CE could have been installed in any car or truck.

other than the dealer that i bought it from telling me that it is a CE engine so far nothing.
the VIN plate on the passenger side right by the front of the cylinder head is blank.
but since it has the propper block stamp saying it is a 72 270 horse 454. why does it matter if it is a CE or junk yard replacement.

did a little more research
on this website
http://www.carsinc.com/mr.bowtie/13744/
it says that the hi perf stamp was used on 4 bolt mains

this site
http://www.mortec.com/bbc.htm
says that on the 3999289 454 block, the CE engines would have either 2 or 4 bolt mains.

i just wish i could find the CE stamp on it.

You are now saying that the stamp pad is blank, so it's NOT a CE engine.

What ID is on your engine then that allows you to conclude year and HP rating?

Not trying to give you a tough time, just don't understand many of your statements.
