'm in need of a torque wrench that goes up to 175# - that puts me in a 1/2" drive.
I have a Mac digital 3/8" drive and like it, also a couple of lower # mechanicals, both beam and click - don't like them so much.
I've looked at Mac , Snap On and Craftsman along with a couple of not-so-well-known digitals.
Any feedback would be appreciated along with any calibration services that you may know of and prices for the service - don't need certification documents, just calibration costs and sources.
All but one of mine are Snap-on. 1/4 Torq-o-meter up to 1/2 drive click.
1 exception is Craftsman beam type 3/8 drive.
If I get a new one it'll be a digital Snap-on that measure torque angle
For calibration I've used Snap-on about $75 a wrench(few years back)
now I have a contact at a local NDT shop that can test my wrench if needed
I have a pair of Husky's (3/8 and 1/2 inch) that I got from Home Depot. Guaranteed for life unlike the POS I got from Craftsman that died after one engine rebuild. They wouldn't replace it either.
I also bought, in the last year or so, an air compressor from Sears to replace my ol' reliable 2 HP Craftsman that served me well for 20 years. With probably less than 10 hours running time on it I've already replaced the piston and seal and will probably have to replace the valve assembly too. Naturally it was out of warranty before it started having problems. If I have to replace more than that or if it dies on me again, I'll just chuck it and find something better.
So much for Sear's mythical reliability and customer service.

I have a couple of Craftsman torque wrenches that I have had for better than 10 years. One of them, a 3/8 drive, will slip in the ratchet head in certain spots. I took it back to Sears to only find out that the things are only warranted for a short period of time. I did get them to replace part of the drive mechanism for the ratchet but that did not cure it. The fixed portion of the ratchet is what needs to be replaced.
I also have a 1/2 drive torque wrench that has been used a blue million times and it has not given me a seconds trouble. It works fantastic. I also bought a new wrench as a Christmas gift for my son that does in. lbs for his LS motor.
In my work I use 3 torque wrenches constantly in my shop, with two back ups for atotal of 5, have a torque analyzer which I check the accuracy daily. We used to go through wrenches like sh*t through a goose, but now we use Norbar wrenches. They are dead reliable, accurate, almost indestructable and are 1/2" drive with a range of 40-250 ft-lb. Kinda pricey, but you get what you pay for.
