Beautiful day here in Oklahoma today so i decided to take her out for a cruise. Started fine backed out of the driveway fine put it in drive accelerated fine would not shift into 2nd rpm's went high like it went into neutral, stopped accelerated did the same thing, fluid was fine.
Did I knock something loose when i put her to bed a month ago. Any suggestions
Hard to say? most likely something in the valve body is not letting it shift into second? Or the clutches could be done? Drop the tranny pan and see what is floating in there. You will get a good indication from that.
If GM is consistant, the clutches for Low and reverse and bundled together, so that why you could back it out and start out in low.

It could be something simple like the Vacuum Modulator that is attached to the tranny. This is where the vacuum line from the intake manifold goes in. If it is plugged it could cause your problem because the same thing happened to me. Cost about $35 to replace.
What year is your car? If you have the turbo 350 I would check the vacumn modulator or the vacumn line to the modulator. Like the others have said if its the 200 or 700 it will hav the TV cable adjustment.
Is it the stock Crossfire motor? If so, then the TV cable should not be the problem, unless it has come loose from the throttle linkage.
More than likely, it is a stuck valve or fluid issue.
Let the car idle until the thermostat opens and the radiator gets warm. Then, put the car in gear and drive it some, to get the fluid moving through the tranny.
If it still won't shift out of low, then you will need to have it checked by a profesional, or tear into it yourself.
If the transmission is original, and has anywhere near 60,000 miles on it, just plan on having it rebuilt at a reputable shop. I had mine upgraded to a 30 spline shaft, kevlar clutches, and a monster sungear shell. Then I had them put in stronger later model valves and a 2400 RPM stall converter. This all ran me $1,100.00. I used a local drag racer that owns a transmission shop. He knew all the tricks to build it strong.
Thanks Curby, yes it is the original crossfire, this 82 is totally original with 30,000 miles on it thats why i found it odd the transmission is going out. The transmission shop is about 15 miles away is there some trick (or additive) i can use to drive it to the shop and save a tow bill.
