Default Help ID a 80 L82

What are the codes on the block and VIN for a L82?? What changes to the motor?

We just towed in an auto 1980 in with a bad motor (spewing water out the exhaust ) and I would like to help the customer keep an original motor!
Thanks, Mike

I havent read the links above but a 1980 L-82 has a 6 in the VIN that indicates it has the L-82 motor option while the non option cars has an 8.Post the first part of the VIN and it might jog my memory,my first Corvette was an 80 L-82.

1Z876S4XXXXX The 6 indicates the car was originally equipped with the optional L-82.

Engine pad will be stamped ZBC for the L-82 with automatic transmission.
