I am going to paint my rear suspension in the next couple of weeks. I am thinking of using silver por-15 (differential, half shafts, etc). This color may be a little bright. I could go with black POR and topcoat it with some cast metal color bug bomb. Any thoughts? Oh, orginality is not really a concern. I don't want it to look like crap, but it is not an NCRS car by ANY stretch of the imagination.
I have shot some of the POR-15 Silver and it is a nice colour. It has a little metallic in it that looks good on small components.
Another product to consider though is the POR-15 Metal Mask. It has the same protective qualities but leaves a natural cast metal look to the part.
Pick up a sample of each, spray a few small parts and make your choice.
Here's a few shots of each colour:

Anyone ever tried it on an intake manifold?? Mine looked real nice when I installed it but now it's starting to look dirty and I can never clean it up to look like new. It's a cast alum, not polished.
you might want to look around, because a lot of guys have mentioned how sensitive it is to UV light even without rolling the car over. i think even late afternoon sun angles and open hoods at noontime can have a pretty dramatic effect.
writer's note- i have never used por-15 myself, just going by forum rumors.

I did my car trailer 4 years ago and the under side of it looks like it wasn't done at all, if not top coated the black turns chalky from the UV Not happy with it. I have also seen it peel off if painted over a surface that is too clean.
I used the POr Silver on my brand new exhaust manifolds before I installed them. It lasted about 6 months and then started peeling off. Th manifolds were brand new, no rust and cleaned with degreaser before I applied the POR. Also I used the can with a brush, and it is like working with water!! It was hard to use without dripping all over!!
I saw the picture of your differential and I am impressed at the look. I have one that has been out of the car for a long while and it is rusted. How much prep work is involved before applying the POR, would simple wire brush and scrub be sufficent? How long will it last?

Thanks for any help you can provide.
I put the empty pumpkin in the blast cabinet to clean all the rust off it. Then it was scrubbed with marine clean and scrubbed again with metal ready to etch it.
after thoroughly rinsing it I let it sit over night and sprayed three coats of metal mask on it over the course of the following day.
Here is a shot of what it looked like before the clean-up:
like I stated,no brainer led side markers.way better than stock.much brighter, looks awesome when lit.full strip lights up,not like 1 bulb in the middle of that long side marker.
At one time, POR offered a high temp cast iron colored paint. Looks much better than a silver color. Not sure if they still do or not. Eastwood had a cast iron high temp paint as well. You might look into those. I used the POR on my exhaust manifolds years ago and they still look great.
High temp cast iron paint on exhaust manifolds. Still looks good after many years.
