Default 76 w/factory 4 speed

Hi All,

Just wanted to get some input, i have an opertunity (possibly) to pick up a 76 with factory 4 speed. Very clean, even the clock works, does have a small crack on the dash, ac compressor is shot, but other than that its in very good condition, no tears on the seats which r orig, all numbers matching, non molested on engine and int.

55k miles on odom.

What do you think would be a good price, paint is orig, has a couple chips but is in great condition.

Please inform opinions, i think i can get it for less than 6k

Additional information would be helpful but, sight unseen, she's probably worth that. Good luck.

Can the mileage be documented? What color? Where are you? Can the car's history be documented? If all is as you say... I would value the car around $8-10. I sold a red/saddle 76 4 speed with 80K 4 years ago for $8, and it was very nice.

L48 or L82? Doesn't matter much but but the L82 would be a little more desirable.

I picked up my '76 l-48, 4-speed 3 years ago for $9500. It too had low miles descent paint and great interior. But, the value seems to have fallen some lately.

If you can get this car for less than $6000 it would be a good deal.
Dont forget to check for rust in the usual places, birdcage, etc. Having a good interior and engine may not be that great if the frame is rotting out.

IF it isn't rusted.....$6k sounds like a great value, especially for a 4 speed car. Only about 10% of the C3s made in '76 were manual transmissions. Here in Arizona, I have noticed a spike in asking price for manual trans late model C3 cars lately. Although, I imagine that asking price vs. actual agreed selling price varies quite a bit these days...

My car has 58k original miles, 4 spd, Metallic Brown exterior and dark brown deluxe interior and original paint with some chips and scratches. Since this is an Arizona car, it has very little (if any) rust issues. If I needed to sell the car, I would ask for $9500 and hope for a quick sale. I have no idea if anyone would make such an offer though.....

These days more than ever, the value of something is different for each person. $300 for a radio seems like highway robbery to me but someone else wouldn't think twice about buying $3000 worth of audio equipment for their rides.

$6k for a nice low miles 4 spd C3 is hard to stay away from if you have confirmed there aren't any rust issues with the car.

Good luck with your purchase!

Takes some pictures, and post them on here. Like other posters have stated, I think it sounds like a good deal also.

Default need good/honest local mechanic in the Austin TX area

I have a stock '76 automatic 4 speed. needs some work on tightening up the steering column, one of the head lights will not go down at times. I know how to temporarily get it down by squeezing the hoses but want to get it fixed properly. Also, I have a leak of power steering fluid and transmission fluid. If you know of, or heard of a place that does good/honest work, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it.
thanx so much.

Thanks Guys!

I just needed some type of input, as I was using the c3 guide book it states the 76's are not the most desierable year for collect, matter of fact it states as far as collectabilty this yr seemed to be only 2 stars, the worse of them all from what the book states.

So this is why i wanted some feed back, its not the year i was looking for, want 78-82 but its a 4 speed which i did want.

I will keep you all posted.

It's a corvette and the only value any corvette has is how much fun you will have driving it.

Use "insert image" in your reply box. It should come up with another box that will allow you to enter the location of the pics. I always make sure to use to full address with "http://"

Anyway, as for comment of the 76's being less desirable...you have to keep in mind that they were way down in power but that didn't stop people from buying them. The mid years had some of the best sales for the C3...but that also put a lot on the road.

Its all personal preference really. I like the rear window better on the earlier C3s verses the hatchback style of the later ones. I also like the raw interior better. Any of these can be made to go faster...as said, don't base your decision on what everyone and the mags are telling you.

If you like it, buy it.

This may not be a big deal, but it has the wrong mirrors on the doors. When I see something odd like that, I assume the worst and start looking harder. Regarding 76 having two star collectibility, it could be the result of high production numbers. Otherwise, it was also the last year they put the Stingray badges on.

Missed that on the mirrors! usaully I catch that stuff, but once I seen the pic from underneath that was all she wrote.

I think this car had to be sitting out side for quite some time, the engine compartment area is way to dirty and rusty. Also not the grass clippings from the pic tells me at one point it was outside and was now pulled into garage, so clippings look fresh and green so that means most recently it was sitting. I think.

My bets are it was reapinted some time ago now that the mirror thing comes up the paint color matches pretty well. I am just assuming all of this but its enough to question.

So my quest continues, still would like to find a quality driver/orig equip 78-82 for around 6k. Tough raquet out there, all the sellers pretty much say no rust, but when you get more specific as to where the rust may be (hense the frame, birdcage etc.) then you find what really lies beneath sort of speak. Most I guess think of rust on the outsdie of vehical, but when we speak Corvette, we are talking frame etc.

Most diificult task is to be on top of whats out there close enough to attack quick. I had found one that I him huad around on and lost it due to being 200 miles away and weather did not permit a look. After many emails finnally got all info needed and it sold the same day , next one sold with in hrs of it going up for sale.

Case in point, keep a close eye and do not procastinate.

So one day I will find this critter and join you all as a proud c3 corvette owner.

Good luck hunting but, I'm afraid at 6k that is what your trophy is going to look like.

Thanks for your support!

And they are out there, you just have to be at the right place at the right time, i know this due to out of the 8-9 cars i have looked at the 2 I mentioned looked like a showroom car compared to this 76.

Nothin like Snipe Hunting!
