the black rubber air damper (guess that's what it is) that is located under the front spoiler on my 81. what is it for??????? just looks or has it real purpose??? took mine off since it was tore up and i think it looks better without it. answers please.

The front spoiler helps direct air into the radiator for better cooling and press the front end down as your speed increases, improving traction at high speeds...
Not sure how much it helps with the traction, but I think it would help to direct air into the radiator.
