The driver side seat back on my '75 leans back further than the passenger side does. I found some repair plates for the seats that attach to the seat frame and installed it on the driver side. The stopper bolts go through the repair plate I installed. I've adjusted the bolts (both sets) out as far as they will allow but the seat still leans back to far. Any ideas?
This may be a bent frame issue. We just did an interior on a 77 the other day and the driver seat when adjusted was further back just as you described. The lower seat frame was bent where the arms bolted in to the car, and the seat side rails were bent too!
We did a 72 conv. years ago and the owner was over 350 lbs. The driver seat was bent on his car as well and the seat frame had to be removed and repaired.
Combine this with the fact that he had windshield frame rot and, let’s just say the windshield did not stand a chance. He was using the pillar post to pull out of the car and using the seat as an impact absorber getting in.
Had the same problem on my 75 the actual upper seat frame was broken in 2 places. On the bottom the weld had broke. On the upper right hand side the frame was snapped apart. Had to take the back completely apart and have it welded. After that all was well.
