Default 427 help needed

I have my 69 vette restored now and have a Dart 540 in it for the time being but I would like to find a correct 427 std bore block for it.

My serial number is 715521 which would make it a Jan/Feb car right?

So I would need to find a 3955270 or 3963512 block right?

My car was a 390 hp car originally which would mean 2 bolt but I would preffer a 4 bolt as I want to use the top end off the 540.

I am just looking for the correct 427 block as a foundation for the build, I know I can use a bored over 396 block or a later 512 (454) block but if possible I would like to find the right one.

Also I would really like a std bore or one that is ready to go at .030 over

I am not sure how the casting dates relate to the time my car was built either so if someone can shed some light on that it would be very helpful. Like what casting code should I look for the right time of year the block was made?

I have these blocks I am willing to trade +or-$

3902406 F 15 6 std bore
3955272 H 14 8 std bore
3955270 H 20 8 .060 over with sleeve in #2 (arp studed btm end)

All are 2 bolt

Any help would be great

Look at the build date on your trim tag- that should lead you to an approximate casting date on your block.

So you're going to all this trouble to remove 113 cubes and use the same top end and STILL not look stock? The motor is going to look the same and be a lot slower.

I'm confused.....

Well the 540 was in a boat I sold and I left the cam and everything the same except the intake which was changed to fit under the hood.

It only pulls 4 lbs of vac at idol and has a monster cam that should be in a drag car or (drag boat) not a show car according to the guy who built it.

If I am in any gear and drop below 2200rpm it will just buck and shake

Besides I want to build another boat project and use the 540 for that because of how built the bottom end is.

A new 540 block just like what I have will run me $2800 plus the crank and H beam rods, JE pistons, mech roller, ect...

I have seen some newer gm 427 blocks for sale but are they based off a gen 4? Or are they a newer version all together?

Also the car is just a show car and 650 hp right now is fun but is really not needed. I think I could make a nice 500+hp 427 and still have fun

why not just change out the cam, lifters, and springs?

take a look in C3 Classifieds, Mortec, ebay, Craig list, your local classified section, and call these guys, 440 476 1500. They have motors and sources for motors

The NCRS will allow up to six months on block casting dates, but closer is better. I would look for a 427 block cast 2-6 weeks prior to the time/build date of your '69. You have to remember the original big block in your car was cast, assembled, tested, and stamped in Tonawanda, New York, then shipped to St. Louis before assembly of your Corvette began.

Next problem: If you feel the car was assembled in February 69, a C06 time/build code is too early. Could it be G06?

Could be G06 I am not sure where exactly my vin# falls for time of year and month built, I guessed Feb. after seeing a listing of vin to month comparison chart.

If anyone can give me a better idea on the build time that would be great

I see my post got moved
I figured Tech section was correct as I was asking about casting numbers and finding out correct dates for a motor for my car
