Temps got up to 38 here today, so I uncovered the vette and fired it up. Pumped it up a couple times and she went on 2nd try. Let it warm up all the way to temp (160).
The best part was getting in and smelling "SUMMER". The smell in my vette just reminds me of a hot summer night, about midnight, Tee's off, just a little heat on your feet. WOW 4 more months.
I get the same feeling breaking open a bale of good hay, just smells like June.
Just walked in from doing the same thing! Just sat in it and let it run, listened to the radio and smelled that new leather............ Spring can't come soon enough for me
funny that you posted that. i was just sittin here at work thinking about doing that exact same thing. warmed up to about 60 here today, should still be pretty decent when i get home, and i haven't started it up for about a month!

I'm going to fire up the Vettes today. We may see 40 degrees today. The roads are too salty to drive them. This is the worst winter in a long while. Usually I can get them out a few times a winter. At least my driveway isn't salted.
This year I put the vette at my mothers house. I miss looking at it in the garage. If it gets a bit warmer I was going to start her up but it looks like its going to get colder here. So for now she sits.
Of course, the year I get back into a vert, we have the worst winter we've had in at least a decade here. My old car I would get out at least a few times in December, not this year though. I am sure I won't get the car out in the coming week given the forecast, so that will be two full months without starting it. I took the battery out this year, it is sitting in my crawl space on a minder. I don't bother to start it unless I can take it for at least a 20 minute ride or so. Hopefully we'll get a warm week in Feb and I can get the car out, but I'm not all that optimistic.
Well, here we have 20F now. And that is the warmest it has been for a long time.. Last week there was -20F... I am trying to start the car every time the temperature is above freezing, but i probably won`t be on the road with the vet before June...
i thought it was better not to start them. if you just changed oil in fall does this mean you should change again in spring?
I was told if you were going to start the car, run it for at least 45 to an hour you want OilTemp to reach peak so no condinsation in left in the motor. Must people like this process so everything stays lubricated.
Most of the time I go this route let it sit till spring, but when I start it I pull the 12volt wire going to the dist. Battery fully charged and crank the car until oil pressure comes up and crank for another 30 seconds. Hook up 12 volts to dist, pump some gas into her and start it.
I use the first option when bored and I just want that feeling of summer
I keep the car in a warm garage, so I don`t think there should be so much extra wear on the engine? I also want to start it, to prevent the A/C system from leaking. Someone also told me it`s a good idea to pump the brakes a few times on every start during the winter...

I guess in Norway winter might be six months long. There probably is some benefit to running the AC system occasionally and pumping the brakes can't hurt. The engine is a different story however. Even a heated garage is "cold" to an engine with normal operating temp of 180F. I am not saying this will destroy your engine. In your case, the overall benefits might outweigh the negatives. Hope that wasn't too confusing.

The temperature in my garage isnt much lower than a hot summer day here, so I guess the car will be exposed to this kind of wear anyway...
