A friend of mine wants to track down the Corvette that his father in law used to own. Does anybody have any tips or resources for such a search?

Thanks

hey interesting question, I will check on this and see what is said. I have wondered how a person tracks any history down about a car. I know the pervious owner bought mine from a car dealer and owned it 15 years. how do ya find out anything before that?

You could post a request for information in the NCRS Driveline and hope that somebody might see the ad.

You are exploring one of the great mystries of the hobby. Everyone wants to know the history of their car yet few are lucky enough to be able to track it down. My advice is to call the DMV of the state in which it was last registered. Ask them for previous owner information and from what state the previous title was issued from. Unless you are lucky they will tell you that due to privacy laws that information can't be released to you.

That leaves you one course of action-become a detective and interview all the previous owners. Take it one owner at a time and try to track ownershipo back as far as you can. It will take a lot of legwork and luck to get the information you want. You can google names and check with local phone listings, neighbors, etc. If the vehicle was bought from a dealer they would have prior owner information but they are only required to retain those records for a few years.

Good luck in your search.

This link will get you started. Do you know the VIN number? A few of the year specific sites have a sign in where you register your VIN. It won't be easy as others have said but it is rather fun.
