Hi All - The clip inside the door panel that holds the lock cylinder in place slipped off. The lock cylinder now comes right out of the door. I took the door panel off and found the clip with the solenoid for the power door locks attached. I tried and tried, but was unable to re-attach the clip. My hands are kind of big, and the space is kind of small. Is there a trick to getting that back on?
Thanks!
You're talking about the horseshoe shaped clip right? If I remember right, I was able to get it on by hand just barely enough for it to stay in place, then I was able to push it the rest of the way with a screwdriver, but almost anything long enough should do the trick to push it the rest of the way on.
You may need to enlist the help of someone with smaller hands. A neighbor kid, or a child of your own, a wife or daughter...someone that can get the clip started so you can get in there with a tool to push it the rest of the way in.
I had the same problem on both sides I had to use long straight head screwdriver to tap it in the entire way. I also bent the two sides down a little bit because it would slip off. I asked my wife to help as her hands are smaller but she didnt have the strength to engage the clip the entire way.
Those clips are really hard to insert back into the lock cylinder you might want to try some lubricant against the door and lock cylinder might help it slide easier.
Put the bent out piece of the clip in the pliers, you should now have the clip alligned like it would go flat agaist the back ou the door. Go as far over as you can towards the lock rod and go behind it. Push the lock cylinder agaist the outside of the door, and push as hard as you can on the clip towards the cylinder. with a little strength you should at least get it on there. then you ga look again if you need and see how much more you need to push it to get it on. Takes a little strength but it will go on. I have "fat" hands and the long bent pliers worked great did it in less than 5 minutes on both doors!
