Default Mecum's Auction

Was anyone watching the Mecum's action today? Around 2pm eastern time a green 69 BB vert sold for more than $100K. I was in an electronics store at the time and saw the car on multiple screens but there was no sound so I didn't hear the final price. The car was an automatic with aftermarket side pipes, there seemed to be nothing special about it. Does anyone know why the price was so high (other than the usual testosterone fed auction hype)?

It was some kind of dealer special car similar to what Baldwin Motion and Yenko did with cars. Can't recall what they said it was, but it is probably listed on the Mecum site somewhere.

This is what Mecum says about the car:
This is a 1969 Berger Chevrolet Corvette. The Berger Power Pack option included chrome headers and side exhaust, high performance water pump, and engine modifications that took it from 400 HP to 450 HP. This is believed to be one of only two Corvettes Berger modified, the other being a 1968. Documentation includes the window sticker showing the car was delivered to Berger Chevrolet in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and a Corvette order copy (tank sticker) that appears to be original. There are additional receipts from Berger showing some repairs that were done to the car.

This car is equipped almost every option you could install on a 1969 Corvette except air conditioning. All paperwork is available for inspection at the auction.

- 1 of only 2 known Corvettes by Berger
- Car has every option available except air conditioning
- Tank & window sticker
- Fathom Green with Green interior
- 2 tops, White convertible top & Black vinyl hardtop
- 427/400 HP engine
- Berger Chevrolet 450 HP Power Pack Option: cam, high perf water pump, headers and side exhaust
- Tinted glass
- Custom shoulder belts & head restraints
- Positraction rear with 3.36 ratio
- Power steering, brakes & windows
- Red Stripe tires
- Front fender louver
- F41 special front and rear suspension

I think I saw that car on Ebay about a year ago.
I saw the low mileage 71 LS6 last night, no sale at $52k I think. WTF?
