Need some opinions on a good sound system. That won't break the bank.

Advanced search for "stereo" gave me 71 pages of stereo info on the C3 general forum.

Are you planning to use the original stereo or you will cut your central console to fit modern stereo?
I´m sure DB will chime in soon with some recomendations!!!
You can place speakers either in the dash or cut the kick panels. For the back you will need to do some custom work in order to fit the speakers in boxes...

My sterero consist on a blaupunkt velocity 2 go boom box (6" woofers) installed in the rear compartment hooked up to a Ipod with the radio acc as head unit. Decent sound no mods to the car and for $250.

Thanks, yeah I'll chime in.

First off we'll need to know your budget and what you want out of the stereo. Do you want JUST mids and highs or do you like bass with your music? Meaning, will you want a sub, or just speakers?

Also, are you opposed to cutting the gauge bezel for a modern size single DIN head unit and what about holes in the kick panels for speakers?

I don't mind cutting what I have to cut ,my interior is all out so I will be starting with new interior.Budget 1000.00 if need be just don't want to
buy stuff I don't need .Will want excellent mid and high also bass.
Most cd's I listen to is blues, doo - wop, late 60's,70's and some tecno .
Want to be able to crank the volume up when I want without any distortion.

Awesome, you described the perfect scenario for the system I love to suggest to C3 owners.

Basically, a modern head unit sends it's signal to a 4 channel amp mounted on the back wall. Channels 1 and 2 power two front speakers located in the kick panels. Channels 3 and 4 get bridged to power a 10" sub in the back, in a corner, that is small enough to leave room for the T-tops.

It's basic, simple, VERY effective, and will come in under your budget.

Head Unit: $118.00

Front Speakers: $79.99 + Shipping

Kick Panel Deadener: $19.99 + Shipping

Subwoofer: $105.00 + Shipping

I can help give you plans for the box. Just email me and I'll attach them to the reply.

Amplifier: $168 + Shipping

You can buy an amp installation kit at almost any local stereo shop, and get two sets of good quality RCAs since you have 4 channels.

Get back with me if you have any questions and we'll go from here.

Obviously you'll need basic installation materials and such and I can give you install tips and help you plan for things like the speaker cutouts, how to cut the gauge bezel for the head unit, and making and mounting the amp board on the back wall.
