7 leaf spring is part of the f-41 package...look at your rear shocks...if they haven't been changed they should be almost twice the size of the front ones...

According to the 13 digit VIN # you provided, your 1972 car is a coupe (third digit is a 3) with the LT-1 engine option (fifth digit is a L) and the last 6 digits 512321 means that your car was probably built in January of 1972.
Now I'm quoting from the 1970-1972 NCRS technical manual "The standard rear spring was nine leaf; heavy duty (F-41) suspension used a seven-leaf spring. Factory production numbers indicate that in 1970 and 1972 F-41 heavy duty suspension was only available with the ZR-1 option. In 1971 the F-41 suspension was available on any corvette" You would be very lucky to have a ZR-1 equipped corvette because only 20 were produced in 1972. A different fact sheet I have states "The ZR-1 package included the LT-1 engine, heavy duty power brakes, heavy duty close ratio 4 speed manual transmission, transistor ignition, special aluminum radiator, and special springs, shocks, and front and rear stabilizer bars (ZR-1s have appeared with and without rear stabilizers) 1972 ZR-1s generally did not have fan shrouds. RPO's A31-power windows, C50-rear window defroster, C60-air conditioning, N40-power steering, P02-deluxe wheel covers, U69 and U79-Am/FM radio were not available with ZR-1".
Since you stated that your car doesn't have many options, maybe you indeed have one of these rare cars, Check the engine suffix code on the front of the passenger side valve cover stamped into the block should be CKY for a LT-1 or CKZ for a ZR-1. Good luck

Rear spring should be 9 leaf unless the car is a ZR1.
Some repo and service springs were 7 leaf so it was likely changed somewhere along the way.

All LT-1s used the caps instead of u-bolts.

All 72 Corvettes had no options until you ordered what you wanted and many LT-1s were strippers. The
only way to get the F41 in 72 was to order the ZR1 which would mean you would also have J56 brakes
which included power assist, so your car must have at least power brakes. Also if you have a radio you
do not have a ZR1 as it was a mandatory no radio car.

Only thing the VIN tells you is that it is a 72 Coupe with the LT-1 engine and is 12,321st Vette built in 72.

LT-1s came with the standard suspension and had 9 leaf springs. Only F41 had 7 leaf rear spring.
