Default ok i need engine info, advice and help ::AAGH::

:will y:

so i started up the corvette and i havent really had time to look at the engine but seems like ill have to replace the gaskets (hopefully tahts all )

anyways, here aare two pics from the top side (ill ask later about the leaks underneath xD)

that GUNK smokes after running for a bit, looks like its oil right? gasket problem? or is the oil coming up the bolts? or both? :S

also:

what is THAT? i dont think its fuel.. didnt really check it though to be honest :S and looks like the gasket/sealer is starting to ooze out right? or is it supposed to look like that?

anyways, i appreciate ALL help and advice (except for "scrap it" without a good reason)

the engine still has power in it i drove it from seattle to portland without any problems (about 160 miles) so im hoping its just a gasket issue...

also, in the first pic as well as the second pic, you can see some of the paint peeling. if i get to replacing the gaskets (if thats what needs to be done) then is there some kind of paint i can spray (after sanding it down) to give the engine a clean look? ill probably have this engine for 1-2 years (as soon as i pay off some C.Cards, im hoping to buy an ls1)

thanks agian and i look forward to reading some replies

Its looks like your radiator hose is leaking see the stain running down the intake. That oozing is normal its silicone between the block and intake manifold mine look the same way.

Chevy blue engine paint at the auto parts store. Gunk engine bright to clean that mess up, tighten that hose and check it a few times over a few days and see if any fresh oil appears anywhere. Vavle covers look like they are leaking, wait till you find out about the front of the intake. Clean and paint anything you end up having to take off. You can paint a lot of the blue stuff still on the engine if your careful to tape off and cover other stuff, looks really tacky when you overspray on hoses and stuff.

I don't see anything out of the ordinary for an old smallblock. You could use a pair of valve cover gaskets.

If it was me, I believe I would drive her for a while before I got neck deep in a major overhaul.

Good luck.

Read where you mentioned gas which made me think, if you don't have a fire extinguisher in the garage I would recommend buying one while at the auto parts store (or while your out). I have read way to many posts of guys who wish they had one when their vette started to flame and many others that were thanking God that they did have one.

Typical leaks valve cover gaskets & it looks like perhaps you may have a intake manifold leak in the front as well. Degrease the engine with engine cleaner & hot water then watch to see where it leaks over a few days...then you will know where you have to do repairs
