Default How to remove kick panels?

Here's an easy one for the collective: How do you remove the kick panels on a 78? I'm looking at one and want to pull them off to insepct the mount (see other post) but I don't want to break stuff with the PO standing there. I looked, but saw no screws.

Thanks!

Remove the door sill plates 4 screws each, the on the kickpanel there should be 1 or 2 screws, up towards the firewall.

When re-installing the sill plates, don't over tighten the screws as they strip easy.

This job should take a few minutes....nothing to it!

Thanks! Sounds easy enough, just didn't want to go busting stuff up on someone's car...especially if I buy it!

Mine was surprisingly easy - no screws were ever re-installed after the interior was dyed from saddle to black! Even I could get them out....

You'll need a stubby and a long and a regular phillips. the single holding screw for the kick panel itself is literally all the way back against the firewall, about 1/2 way up. Take out the 4 sill screws next, first 3 work well enough though. Next, take the stubby (DO need a stubby for this), and take out the 2 screws holding the glove box panel (pass side) and tach-speedo panel (drivers side) from the DOOR JAM (2 screws). Then you should be able to pull these slightly forward and remove the kicks easily, I've pulled mine many times. But that's only 1/2 the story. In the front of the rear wheel wells, there is a little panel, held in with 6? little self tapping bolts. To inspect the rear #3 body mount, remove the wheel, remove the little bolts and then the little cover. It's sealed with some of that black tar paste, no big deal. Take picture for later reference. Also a nice trick is to put the camera up into the front kick panel channels and snap a picture with the flash, getting a good view of the channels, all the way to the bottom of the inside dash. Don't let a little SURFACE rust scare you off, but anything more may be a cause for concern. Also be aware that the top of the windshield frame also can rust out. Rust here varies, and the cost to repair it varies with it's severity, but it is almost to be expected on 'Vette that live in wetter climates. Repair here can vary from 500 to 4K. good luck,, C.
