So I know what it say on my dmv reg. but has anyone ever weighed a C3 to seel how much it is? I'm wondering how much mine weighs 77 T Top with AC, Auto. now I have aluminum heads and intake so I would guess a loss of maybe 70-75 lbs?
Thanks
I weighed mine a couple of years ago. It was 3349 with me (150 lbs) in it. So around 3200 pounds. I do have a lot taken out of the car and probably a few pounds lighter now.
Mine weighed 3380lbs w/half tank of fuel at the local drag strip scale. Completely stock/original 71 SB, auto, ac. Only weight reduction was no spare tire and an aluminum intake, headers....
One of my '71 LS6's I weighed on certified scales. This car is completely stock, with original F 70 15 tires (all 5) with virtually no fuel in the tank and me out of the car, with these options N37, N40, J50, U69/U79, MA6, M22 it weighed 3,340 lbs.

Shipping weight doesn't include fluids to capacity and 1/2 tank of gas, as does curb weight. BB aluminum heads are ~75# lighter than iron ones, but the savings of alum vs. iron on a SB is likely about half that amount. With alum heads and intake I'd guesstimate you've take off ~50# vs. iron heads and intake. I used to have a chart of all of this, but can't find it.
Howdy All,
According to my Rego sticker the weight of
my '74 is 3410 lbs/1550kg (Which is heavier than most
of our Aussie family sedans !!!!!).
Cheers
Gav
I maybe knocked off 20 lbs since then, but my car weighed in at 3300 even some years ago....I was VERY disappointed....
I can understand maybe 50 lbs added from the Muncie to the 200 4r auto, but the engine went aluminum heads, intake, front lights gone, grills replaced, aluminum radiator....electric fans have added weight...but serp drive and small compressor have shaved a ton right there....
I would think I shaved about 150+ lbs off the car weight since I got it....apparently NOT.....
i'ts a convertible....and car shipping weights are in fact totally meaningless....

Why so heavy? Increasing gov't mandated safety measures for one, after which it took GM a while to put the Vette on a diet. By the end of the C3 run they had found significantly lighter ways of meeting requirements. Plus, I'm not sure the General was paying much attention to performance just then.
